Adding synchronous sampling would only be a firmware update. The hardware is fully capable of doing it.

I'm informed by Digilent that they've had a lot of requests for this and that it will be added "soon"...

Whether what they call "Synchronized acquisition" is actually synchonous acquisition is not clear. Synchornous acquisition means that a sample is acquired on the selected edge of an external clock.

Just checked with Diligent.

They say: With sync capture you can specify any DIO or DIN pin to use as the sampling clock and enable . For the clock you can specify the edge (rising,falling,either) and for enable, the polarity.

On the Analog Discovery 2, this works reliably at up to 40MHz clock (mainly due to clock jitter). On the Digital Discovery it'll sample at up to 800MHz but it's really only reliable at up to 100MHz in synch mode.

That's the sort of thing that could encourage me to buy one. Most of the logic analysis I might want to do is synchronous. 40MHz would be a bit limiting for me but 100MHz is fine for most things. Getting the signals into the probe intact is becoming a problem at those speeds.

Yep - they have a special cable clip as the Digital Discovery unit samples at up to 800MHz (1.25ns).

I only have the Analog Discovery 2 - as I do mainly micropower (IoT and low MHz) microprocessor stuff, 40MHz is more than enough for me.
