Update: I have now managed to balance a universal avominor movement- and it wasn't too challenging. The place where you add weight is very small though, obviously.

Strangely, the one that i balanced was tail-heavy- i had to wipe a tiny bead of araldite half way up the needle to compensate for this. I have another avominor that is tail-heavy, i think this may be a common issue. If out of balance it is difficult if not impossible to adjust to a good needle 'zero' using the Z screw.

I have now managed to find a DC only HR Avominor, which i have managed to get working. Like the LRO, it is based on a modified DC avominor mould. It was found in a skip, apparently..

...Bump... Just wondering if the meter featured by 'Excessive Leakage' has been resurrected yet. It certainly looked as though a salt atmosphere or lengthy periods of damp had got to it.

Hi, On some commercial meters there are small coils of wire on the cross arms that have these as balance weights.
They are often held in place by shellac and if heated with a soldering iron it will melt and the weight can be moved up and down as required.
