Update: I have now managed to balance a universal avominor movement- and it wasn't too challenging. The place where you add weight is very small though, obviously.
Strangely, the one that i balanced was tail-heavy- i had to wipe a tiny bead of araldite half way up the needle to compensate for this. I have another avominor that is tail-heavy, i think this may be a common issue. If out of balance it is difficult if not impossible to adjust to a good needle 'zero' using the Z screw.
I have now managed to find a DC only HR Avominor, which i have managed to get working. Like the LRO, it is based on a modified DC avominor mould. It was found in a skip, apparently..
