Charging SLA batteries

They each have this stamped on the top: 141211EM. Possibly December 2011? Some very old (1993?) similar Yuasa batteries have 2100102 on them.

Yuasa datecodes are YYMMDDPP where "PP" is the plant code where they were made - the other digits are self-explanatory.

So they're rather old stock but not ancient. Ought to have survived that long on the shelf. without dying completely. My other guess is they were faulty units returned by a customer who just returned them as "not wanted" as you can at Toolstation. Hard for TS to police that sort of thing.

I'll look at the codes on the new ones when they arrive tomorrow.

The code on the very old Yuasas doen't make sense in those terms so presumably Yuasa changed the code at some point between 1993 and now.

I've been buying 12V, 4AH Yuasa SLA for decades for a particular piece of kit I have. I usually buy from RS, and never had the least problem with them.

You could buy from one of the specialist battery suppliers online like Strikalite. They should have a good turnover.

Glad to say the replacements from Toolstation are fine. They have 2015 date codes.
