Unfortunately, unlike Poundland and the like, Ikea are not very thick on the ground but, the next time I visit one, I must remember to stock up on their 10-packs!

I've bought Duracell from supermarkets, stores which have a high turnover, only to have them leak within the intended recipient in a matter of days. First sign being a rusty brown watery fluid emanating from the case seal, usually at the negative end. One of the worst was a Duracell PP3 in a DVM, lasted a few days when I heard a muffled bang but thought nothing of it until I tried using the DVM the next day. On investigation the rear of the PP3 had shattered with the cell plates poking out of one corner. The whole thing has put me right off Duracell as a brand, you don't expect this sort of thing from what is supposed to be a premium battery. Tried taking the batteries back to the store and was told "we don't sell fake" and you need to take it up with the manf.

Nowadays I use Sanyo, Panasonic or Sony branded cells, with Kodak a very close alternative. They do the job and crucially they don't leak, especially in mission critical uses like smoke alarms.

This was many years ago but may still apply: a friend visited the assembly plant in (I think) Indianapolis, Indiana where there was a line cranking out AA alkaline cells. At the end of the line were stocks of casings with pre-printed names. I was told that all cells made in the USA were made there.

I see he's aiming his videos at the other side of the pond, referring to 'Dollar Stores'. (Poundland/Pounworld etc)

It would be interesting to put a range of batteries into the Duracell drumming bear or whatever it was, that allegedly went on far longer on Duracells than other brands.

A bit like the VW diesel emission tests I guess.

No brands can be trusted, but batteries at £1.00 for six are quite a different thing from a car of course.
