Fader Puzzle - any ideas?

I wonder if it is similar to the output attenuator of an Avo ct378 signal generator?
It's a little while since I played with one but I do remember getting weird resistance measurements from the printed variable resistors.

I think that this is because console faders are printed resistive networks designed to work into a specific load, I.e. there is a tee to the wiper at each node which will depend on the wiper's position.

The end to end resistance will be constant but each end to wiper total will vary depending on the node the wiper's at...
