Time to start "fiddling" again, so straight in with this rather nice German set.

To be honest this radio is better than it looks, so for a start today I need to go into
the loft to retrieve a set of valves for it, a few checks with the old multimeter,
Change that cap, and hopefully then give it a few volts to see if it comes to life.

My nephew rescued it - it was destined for the tip, so he passed it on to me some years ago. I do have a fondness for German piano key radios, but realistically, I'd have never got around to restoring it, so when I learned of Paul's penchant for such radios, I was only too pleased to find a home for it. Very best of luck with it Paul - the 'switchery' on such radios looks something of a nightmare.

I'll await developments with interest!!

Just an update, valves fitted and a couple of caps changed, the on/off switch which is dual pole was o/c on one side, so fitted new mains lead making sure fuse was in positive side, and eliminated one side of switch, applied power through the lamp limiter, unfortunately the 60W bulb started out bright and as set warms up, it hardly drops, dial bulb lights up, valve heaters are struggling to light and nothing through speaker, so next step is changing out the 50+50uf smoothing can and taking it from there.

Um! looks challenging Paul. Are the piano keys the most suspect item?

I've had a few Telefunkens mainly AM/FM and AM/FM/TV and the piano key switches with a bit of a blow out and judicious use of contact cleaner have been fine for many years.
Not so for the Volume control and the plastic cases and plastic piano keys themselves which seem to get very brittle and crack. The creamy colour plastic parts in particular.
