As a follow-up to previous posts, I refitted the drive cords (not too difficult!), tested the radio on all bands, and, whilst it worked OK, the replacement SMD 3.3v regulator IC ran quite warm after about 30 minutes. Because of this I soldered a piece of tinplate about 0.75" long x 0.6" wide to the PCB 'heatsink' to extend the surface area of the latter, being careful to keep it clear of the adjacent SMD IC, whose tab is at 0v, whilst that of the regulator is at +3.3v. I bent the added tinplate downwards and tested the radio again on all bands. It has now been run several times for an hour or more at a time with no sign of any distress. The only other problem is a (very)slight mains hum present when the radio is switched off, which seems to be common with these sets. I may well leave that as it's not intrusive, and the radio can (should?) always be switched off at the wall when not in use.
