Nokia handsets.

I have quite a few Nokia handsets starting with the 1610,2 x 2210, Banana, 8 x 8210, 2 x 8850, 6600, 2 x N95, N97 and now I have just got an 8910i. Picked up for 1Euro at the flea market. This is a cute little phone, colour screen and a titanium body, they have prices on ebay which are surprisingly high. Th e problem is how to get into it to change the backgrounds etc. I have tried various versions of PC suite from 3.6, 4.8, 5.8, 6.3, 6.8, and 7.1 (This is the official Nokia one at present for this phone, the Nokia blurb states it has bluetooth capability, this is an inaccuracy for want of a better word, It does NOT have a bluetooth option.) The only ones which half worked (connected to phone but did not allow transfer or file vision) were 5.8 and 6.3) I have tried file transfer from the N95 and N97 over Bluetooth, while they pair OK the transfer is rejected by the 8910i. I understand that there was a version that was supplied with the phone;- 5.02 but I can't find this anywhere. I see that there are Logo manager, Oxygen express and MobiMB that are stated as suitable but the trial versions don't inspire much confidence, very basic functionality is greyed out and connection does not take place. I would have thought that a trial version would have limited functionality or maybe not allow saving etc......
Nokia's couldn't careless attitude regarding Upgrades/Software for it's top of the range phones have led me to buy an HTC. After 20 yrs of mainly Nokia, there has been the odd trangression with Ericsson,Motorola and Siemens but I think I have left them for good. The customer service with HTC is superb, they even help you to hack the phone! The phones are excellent too better than friends' S3 and i4s apart from screen definition. Who needs LTE capability (so called 4G!!!!!) in mainland Europe when there are virtually no networks because of the lack of Fibre infrastructue.
If anyone has a copy of PC suite 5.02 I would be very grateful of a copy after my rant !!!

Can't help with the software I'm afraid.

I just upgraded from (Samsung) i8910 for an HTC One. I've discovered that it's Bluetooth is not very good when using the headset in conference calls. People started complaining about how distorted my voice was, etc. I tried a different headset but it was the same. I went looking on the forums and sure enough this is a known problem - with no fix in sight apparently.

As a workaround I decided to use the inbuilt speakers but the audio is still not very good when in phone calls.

Interestingly, when playing music of video files the quality is great.

I hope your HTC works better.

The Nokia PC Suite has always been VERY poor from day 1, way back in the late 1990s, and Nokia never acknowledged it apart from launching later versions with more features, but no bug fixes. At that time, I used PhoneSync from a company in Newbury, now swallowed up by one of the majors.

I will ask around for you, but don't hold your breath.

One tip on the bluetooth link - look into the setup and choose PC suite, NOT serial. That catches people out.

OK John,
I used a stereo headset from Plantronics With my HTC One S, the sound is excellent. Downside is if it goes out of range for more than a few seconds then it locks up. I use it with the N97 and it is perfect. I'm in the middle of a bit of a discussion over it due to the flexi bits falling apart. The guaranty is 2 yrs but I didn't know, only recently did I get back to them and it's about 9 mths out of guaranty.
Anyway they agreed to send me a new one now.
Any probs with the HTC get onto their support dept.

I have tried 5.8 and the last one is 7.1 which doesn't work. Today I found an original disc for the 8910i on a spanish site like ebay for 3 euros so I snapped it up, hope it works. I have set up an old laptop with a 1.4G hard disc and installed Win 98, I have a few probs with the display drivers but it is ideal for the old phones. The whole bunch of PC suites were a complete crock right from the beginning with endless driver problems for IR. I used Logo Manager for some of the early ones and that is difficult to get free now. I still have a few versions knocking around somewhere. I tried MobiMB locks up the PC and the contact page doesn't work either. However it has a bug and lets you tranfer data in an odd way even though it says this doesn't work. I'll let you know how it goes when I get the disk.

Ok, I got the disk today with PC suite 5.02 for the 8910i.
It works fine for transferring ring tones which was the main reason for getting it,
BUT can you believe it there is no way to transfer pictures jpg,bmps etc to the phone. What a crock of...........................................
Absolutely unbelievable, remember this colour phone was the top of the range in 2003 and cost over 1000 Euros....................
