It's mostly amateur radio stuff, mostly junk, and few of them (IMHO) are worth travelling far to get to and to mingle among the great unwashed.

The larger ones are worth a visit for anyone not too far away - EG, Newark, and I've heard that Kempton Park is quite good.

Along with 'Mrs Yorkie' I had a couple of tables at Hornsea last year as it's only six pound for a table and two helpers with power laid on. That's just £2.00 more than the entrance for two people. It's just a small affair in a little hall. Basically, I'm trying to get rid of amateur radio stuff - I lost interest in it years ago when it became nothing more than 'posh CB' and not very posh at that. I'm also taking a few vintage radios this year to see if I can slim down my collection - nothing very collectable or of interest on the forum. Not so much about making money as 'de-cluttering' in my case.

October 13th - it will be on us in no time. I mentioned it as Ted 'ex2base' (along with Mrs Ted!), usually has at least one table, and the tables soon get fully booked.

Heck, in three weeks it will only be four months to Christmas so I dare say that all the Christmas stuff will be in the shops before the clocks go back - it seems to get earlier each year.

Thank you for reminding me David re Hornsea must get on the phone to John. Another way of working a counter is to use a slot optical coupler as I have done on my mill and drilling machine or to use a ABS braking sensor.Couplers and ABS sensors will work at high speed and are not expensive. I get my couplers from scrap printers and the like and the data is on the net. I like a challenge keeps the brain active. The latest challenge is to use our feed in Electricity from the PV panels to energise the immersion heater. I have installed three 55 Micro farad 400 volt capacitors in an earthed steel box, together with 3 relays such that we can remotely select one capacitor on its own,two in parallel or three in parallel all connected in series with the heating element. So far it has worked well,with a bit of tweeking on the way. Initially I had a 240/110 volt site transformer feeding the immersion heater from the PV panels, but it had, as all transformer do, heat loss. So then I though of the capacitor idea, did a few calculations and looked through the junk box and fortunately got the necessary bits and pieces. There are fully automatic gadgets around from £250 upwards.I've had a big clear out of all my Amateur Radio stuff, all gone, just got one pole left.Ted

If you remember Ted, you sent me details of how to use a frequency counter module and a slotted disc and opto-coupler as a lathe speed indicator, to enable the frequency counter to show RPM rather than KHz. I designed a couple of PCBs and built them but never fitted the 60-slot disc and opto coupler to my woodturning lathe as I fitted a handwheel outboard of the headstock and there wasn't any way I could fit the disc. Neat idea though!

Back on the track of this thread, I'm in Normandy for a few days (D-Day and all that stuff), and I'm looking forward to unpacking the sewing machine motors, which should have arrived by the time I get back, to see if I can pair at least one motor with one foot controller.

Weather couldn't be better Al!

Bearing in mind the events of June 1944, it's quite surreal to see families on the golden beaches, and windsurfers all enjoying themselves in the sun in sight of huge gun batteries and concrete bunkers. Got on the coach in Hull on Monday at 4am, arrived at the hotel 21.30pm - rather that than to have had to arrived here in a landing craft under a hail of fire!

There's a veteran of the Seaforth Highlanders on the trip, kitted out in all his Scottish rig-out. He went on the beach and started playing his bagpipes, shattering the peace and scattering the French in all directions!

I'm sure you will have hours of fun once you get your hands on the motors and controllers David; something to look forward to upon your return.

Shouldn't you be buying such things though after the Hornsea Rally and not before; you'll never clear any space because you keep filling it before its made?
