Re-finishing enamel surface?

There must be people here who understand this sort of stuff...

Turned off the Aga last weekend (oil fired) and did the service myself as usual (quite simple). Save 80 to 90 quid each time - the bits needed - new wicks etc. - cost about 2 quid a service (bought a whole reel years ago) and it takes me only an hour...

As part of my annual service, I tend to give the Aga a complete de-grease as they can get quite grubby and are difficult to clean properly when hot...

The tops of Agas are heavily enamelled cast iron - in our case, black - and get scratched by the cast-iron pans being dragged around - this takes the shine off the enamel and dulls the surface...

It occurred to me that very gentle use of a polishing mop and some fine T-cut or similar with water might bring the surface back...

Thoughts? Is this a silly idea?

Enamel is basically glass so I don't know if the abrasive in T-cut would be hard enough. Something like jeweller's rouge may be a better bet.

That's it Joe - when my daughter had her AGA refurbished, the chap used jeweller's rouge like you say. Lots of elbow grease, but it came up a treat.
