All Class-A and Class-B Amateur Radio licensees can now apply for an extension to their licence for operation on specific frequencies in the region of 5 MHz. But first you must apply for this, via the appropriate NoV (Notice of Variation) at OfCom:

Application is by the link in that address. I applied on 24 Dec. 2012 and within a matter of minutes received an e-mail granting that permission.

I do not have any functional kit for AmRad transmission at present (one of those projects that always seems to be getting pushed further back in the 'to do' list), but that's not the point: it's being offered, F.O.C., therefore . . . .

Just did the same Al, and like you got it by return email. Have to tweak my old Heathkit now !! Have heard some "hams" using this whilst monitoring the HF N.Atlantic aircraft - I use "hams" in inverted commas as they also seemed happy to use a lot of "f" words as well, despite giving their callsigns. Only heard this once though.
