Tuning Scale Reproduction

Just wondering if digital printing would do the job, I know they can print photo's and designs straight on to glass using ceramic inks, there seems to be a minimum size for the substrate which is larger than your average glass scale.
Successful scale reproduction has always seemed to be the holy grail of restoration, anyone got any thoughts on this technology?
