It's only a simple TRF set but the tampered with vandalised coil led me a merry dance. The set had a circuit tucked in side when I bought it at Golborne, and on the paperwork were scribblings of the coil, dated 2004, so the previous owner had clearly been at it, got in a muddle, chucked the towel in and moved it on. I'm agreeably surprised at how well it performs. The cabinet won't shine up very well - I've had a good go at it with Greygate Polish #5, but there are telltale signs that the cabinet was originally sprayed white because there are traces of white paint inside the holes where the controls protrude. I guess that Nitromors or whatever hasn't done the cabinet any favours, but at least it's not damaged. The cabinet on the 'Noble' Princess 'lookalike' is excellent and as far as I can tell, the set is untouched so I stand a better chance of getting it going without too much hassle - just the usual stuff. I'll have to make a heat sink and mount two 50W metal-clad resistors to replace the burnt out dropper, but I know that will work as it's worked fine on the Princess.

I've found after stripping paint off Bakelite with Nitromors that it usually comes up very nicely.
