Decomposing foam

I've had various kinds of foam, both antistatic and otherwise, go bad. In most cases it's easy enough to clean off the remains. Sometimes it can be destructive.

What experience have you had and what have you done about it?

Years ago I had a 15" Wharfedale bass speaker with a foam surround,
supposedly better than cloth.
Within a year or so it had all decomposed, much to the concern of
G A Briggs, MD of Wharfedale, who replaced it with a cloth surround.

I have an old carton of ACOS 101 cartridges, all individually packed in foam which has turned into fine dust. Not done anything about it yet and I'm not looking forward to cleaning them.

I have had exactly the same problem as in the link in post#1
It rots everything.

Same problem with the damping foam that was used in headphones. Two pairs of Koss phones dating from the 1970's that I bought, it had turned to liquid tar. Hell of a mess to clean up. Replaced it with some regular loudspeaker synthetic damping stuff (used to be called BAF wadding). Fortunately apart from the mess, there was no damage to the drivers.
