SONY ICf2001D displays 'Error3'

Having just fitted new batteries (3 x Alkaline 'D' cells, & 2 x Alkalne 'AA' cells) to one of the above multiband radios, when switching the set on 'Error 3' is displayed for maybe 10 seconds, then the display goes blank. (The adjacent clock display shows the no. of hours since the batteries were fitted) None of the controlas, other than the mechanical switches & slider, obviously), have any effect.  I haven't yet opened up the radio to check anythiing, but does anyone know what 'Error3' means? A microprocessor failure, maybe?

I used to fix these sets when I worked for Sony. I do remember error 3 and I think it's possibly supply related. I'm sure there is a DC-DC converter that can fail, as with any Sony though check for dry soldered joints and battery corrosion and their connections.

You're probably right, Mark. In the user instructions, which I've found elsewhere on the 'net, it states that 'Error3' is to do with the power supply, though it states only obvious things like 'weak batteries', 'power switch setr to 'off' etc.

In view of the above, removing the batteries, waiting a few moments and then reinstalling them again might be a good idea.
Having had some duff battery problems not so long ago, checking the batteries carefully before reinstalling might be another good idea ...
