Noob says Hi!

Guys, I am relatively new to vintage radios. I have kind of inherited a couple of them - both are non runners.
Both me and the wife like them and would like to have on permanently installed in the kitchen for casual listening.
Yes, we have all the mod-cons of most households nowadays but we do like the old stuff too.

The radios in question are Baird 242 and Ferguson 382U.

Ok, so they're not worth a fat lot but hey, they are great and I would like to get them both up and running to use in my kitchen and garage. I may even upgrade in the future.

I will post in the spares/repair section at a later date to see if anyone can repair them at low cost.

No, not really, I neither have the test gear or the experience to repair radios. I am wary of poking around inside - especially at those voltages.

I live in East Manchester and would be happy to let another member have a go at getting it working. I'm not looking for a full restoration.

I'd recommend you see if you can get hold of Chas Miller's book on vintage radio audio repair. It's all written so you keep your interest going and learn gradually. For example, one very basic chapter tells you all you need to know about Ohms Law for practical repair. The first diagram you tackle is a very simple 3 valve portable. It's written with an emphasis on practical repair of old radios without doing more theory than you need.
