For £92 you could get at least 3 Pye 39J/Hs. You'd then have 3 complete P-P Output stages (EL33s), Mains Transformers, Rectifiers, Speakers, etc, etc.

Exactly. For far less than £92, you can buy a rather tatty & beat up old Racal RA-17. The mains xformer is a splendid, oil-filled beast. You also get the oil-filled choke, an EZ34 and a load of other very useful bits, too. And what you don't want to keep, you can flog on an on-line auction site - like many do - and get a very good return.
I'll never understand why when any radio is stripped for bits and those bits are sold, the turnover is always much higher than if the same set was sold intacto. Do some people value their time that much?

Mad indeed, and I'm as bad as anybody.

The last time I went to Golbourne I paid £4 for an EZ80. There were plenty of sets on sale at £5 that would have had one in plus all the other bits. I knew though that if I'd bought one of the latter I'd have ended up fixing the blooming thing!

I think overall that it's a good thing. It provides a source of hassle-free spares for the people who don't want to spend time stripping old sets.
There's an ebay Seller over in Norwich, whose name escapes me, who appears to do it all the time. I don't think he has anything on at the moment. As he seems to strip quite a lot of Pyes I've bought things off him and they've been entirely satisfactory.
