In the 1970s I bought a nixie tube counter with the intention of making a capacitance meter based on a constant currant feed and a gated oscillator. The project was abandoned and the counter just sat there for many years.
A switch was fitted to bypass the switches on the right hand side. That was where it was left all those years ago.
A transformer winder has had it back on the bench this time using the right hand side panel.
The switches set a preset count and once this is reached a big relay closes and the counting stops.
It will be used to control the motor on the winder so that I can lay the turns neatly while it looks after the counting and switching. It looks like it is going to be very useful.
It did have 6 digits but one of the GNP-7 tubes went internally short circuit and killed two TTL chips. I had to repair the board even though there was no tube in the last digit. 5 digits is more than enough for winding transformers anyway.
