Advice on modern led /lcd/plasma tvs.Which brand is bettter pic /sound qaulity at around £250 and give good pic playback from the dvd/vhs player.
We have a 32" led Blaupunkt atm which was aceptable untill we played a dvd to it and it was very grainy so it going back for a refund and we will have to try another.

I have a Samsung TV ..... http://www.johnlewis.com/samsung-ue32f50...hd/p439161 and it is excellent when replaying DVDs and also for HD Freeview stations (if they are transmitted in your area). Best one I have had ever.

Buying from John Lewis, you get an automatic upgrade to 5 years warranty, and they don't quibble.

I'd give a vote for Samsung as well. I can't remember the model I have but it plays just about everything without a problem. I discovered while I was looking around that some sets that are full HD do not reproduce standard def DVD's very well but will do a fine job with Blu-Ray. So if you intend playing both formats I'd check both on any set before parting with the money.

I'd recommend Panasonic but if you can get a free 5 year warranty then any of the major manufacturers should be OK. The sound on most flat panels is generally poor. I opted for a home cinema Blu-ray player system which, when setup correctly, switches the TV sound to the home cinema speakers, much better quality.

You'll probably be disappointed with VHS playback on a flat panel as they generally don't do analogue video very well. I think VHS and to some extent Standard Def freeview are more suited to smaller screens where the lack of resolution is less noticeable.

I'd also suggest to go for a TV with a T2 (HD) tuner as this will future proof your TV if they decide to push all the multiplexes to MPEG4 sometime in the future. The HD picture is also significantly better but make sure the screen is a 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Last month I purchased a Panasonic 32" LED flat screen TV, model L32E6B, from JLP: cost = £370. Its performance is excellent in every consideration. The sound quality is very good: for us, here, the optional 'sound bar' accessory is simply not necessary. If that screen size meets your requirements and if you can afford it, buy one. √

I do realise that that is more than your £250 limit, but I think you'll have to pay a bit more than that figure is you want a 32" screen and reasonable-to-good quality, even if you go for the 'no frills' option. Amongst the 'knowledgeable', I carried out a survey on manufacturers / suppliers: Panasonic / JLP was the clear winner.

There is a line of thought that advises against plasma screens: considerations of power consumption / heat output / reliability / long-term maintainability.

We too have a Panasonic flat screen TV, type TXL22D228BW, bought brand new in a box from a small local indipendant retailer down here for £150...So far so good.

Sony Bravia LED (5 or 6 years old maybe) has been excellent but maybe more than your budget.

One of the problems we have is the new blue spot tv dosent/isnt capable of being connected as with the ferguson/philips dvd player/recorder so that the tv comes back on automatical after the dvd is finished and i cannot find the correct source for the hearing aide loop box .It should be through a scart with phone plugs in a scart plug but that wont fit into the space at the back so ive put the phone plugs into other phone sockets on the tv.But when useing the dvd player theres no sound so have to unplug and put them into the sockets on the dvd player.
So much hassel.
