I was about to pull a link from another site.
They replace the anode resistor with a silicon constant currant device removing the linearity problem caused by running low HT rails.
So why not use the FETs directly in class A and be done with it?
The valve in the circuit then becomes symbolic.
The idea is almost as stupid but with a little more common sense if the designer had a huge stock of variable MU pentodes and was told to use them all up in audio circuits. The currant regulator would make them linear to some extent maybe?
