It was last year when I had misplaced my jigsaw. It was an old cheapie and in frustration and a shortage of money I went for an £8 one with a fully primed tape bomb decorating the power cable.
The poor thing needed a bit of TLC anyway and it got no other interest.
The first job had to be to defuse the bomb. Before applying power so grab the cable either side of the offending item and the job was done.
Obviously there was the mandatory badly wired plug fitted with the correct fuse for maximum effect when the bomb goes off
The fully isolated Variac had no problem testing such an item as it is rated at 1000W and the electrics proved to be otherwise in fine fettle.
This proved to be an opportunity to eliminate the need to get an extension lead out for cutting wood. A bit of 2 core lead long enough to reach outside was the order of the day for this one
It was off with the rust and fit a correctly rated plug and fuse. It is slow start with the variable trigger so 5 amp it is.
There is no need to polish a workhorse like this and it is much more powerful than the little one that turned up after a bag of rubbish was cleared away to reveal the location it had been misplaced in.
