Article on the HRO

Following on from Lawrence's BBC article some may like a read of this. It comes from Discovering Vintage Radio by Peter Lankshear (NZ). This soft cover book was wriiten back in the 70's and I was lucky to get a copy (lots of other good stuff in it).

Many thanks for that Gary, I had not seen that article before, it's a good read. I am an HRO nutter, that's where my user name on the forum originated from.
For it's time I would say it was the best, others may differ.
Like most things the HRO along with its manufacturer and other manufactures of that era ran its course.
In my opinion the reason that the design remained basically unchanged for so long was because they got the design right in the first place, it was a clever well thought out piece of radio engineering, the real winner was the reduction drive and the plugin coil pack design.

Forgot to say: That reference to the Stenode receiver is interesting from a historical point of view. I looked at the circuit diagram for the Stenode and the Xtal filter arrangement it uses certainly looks familiar.
