Hi All,
Resolved.
I took the bit out of the Weller and reaffixed it ensuring that the retaining nuts were tight. Its now working perfectly and solved the problem (as its v hot). Excellent soldering gun as its got to be at least 40 years old. My dear old dad bought this and I'm sure he would be pleased to know that its still going strong.
