OK, my B40 is up and running again - duff Mains switch. I'm amazed they got away with those crude open frame switches, but all it needed was a good dose of Switch Cleaner and a bit of wiggling. I also took the opportunity to do a bit of cleaning and lubricating and it's now working very well - that's the IF Output on the 'scope - so I'll be able to listen to the football.

I've been to see Rob and he's sorting me out some Connectors. His extension has wall-to-wall RA17s and other Racal gear, all racked up and cabled in. I was quite embarrased clutching my FAZ

When I get it connected up I'll start a Thread about it.

When you said "IF output" I was expecting it to be a smooth 470kc/s (or whatever) sine wave. "A little knowledge..." and all that.

Nice signal Alan, glad you sorted the B40 out, I agree those switches are a bit hairy, I don't operate the one on mine, it's permanently in the on position, got the connectors now for the RA218 ISB so I will rig everything up when it's the Racals turn to go on the bench whenever that may be.

Alan, does your B40 have it's original mains input plug fitted? If so is it a 2 or 3 pin, mine has a 3 pin Bulgin which I don't think was the original type.

I believe it should be a 2 Pin Plessey Mk.4 on a D, the same as the others - see attached. The description is the same in both Parts Lists but oddly a different A.P. or J-S Number. That may just be an alternative. The plugs are very thin on the ground in my experience.
I've strapped an external Earth on mine.

Thanks Alan, I find that any B40 bits are thin on the ground, seperate mains earth is a good idea, all my stuff is strapped to earth, I will keep an eye out for the correct connectors.

Rob has sorted me out some plugs - the ones that connect the B40 and the FAZ, the FAZ Outputs plug and a Mains plug, splendid.
Decorating in progress so there'll be a short delay, and I still need a Connector for the IF.
