The important thing is 'reasonable money' - they are easy to get at high prices!
How much did you have to pay/
Andy
Hi Andy, yes NOS Mullard octal Magic eyes seem to attract high prices.
The one I won is an Osram Y63 NOS in original box, £7.50 I think it was + P&P, I say I think because my wife paid for it!
The same seller still has a NOS Osram Y65 up for auction for the same money more or less at the time of writing.
Eventually I will get some repacement valves for the rest of the R1155, the ones in there work ok but test more on the low side of normal, when I replace them I will slip some thin nylon line under the base to aid future exctraction!! I'm sure you know what I mean. Normally I shove the blunt end of a pencil against the spigot from underneath to aid extraction but there are a couple where the spigot hole is blocked by components. I suspect that the AGC response might be a bit out also, I will wait for the valves then have a look into it.
By the way did you receive my Email regarding R1082 circuit etc?
Lawrence, that was indeed a good buy!
The BL63 DF valve seems to be the other expensive one. I don't recall ever having seen this used anywhere else, so why it is suddenly sought after I don't know.
I haven't received an email from you (I was wondering whether you had sent anything, although I was expecting a PM), but I may know why if it was an email to my home email address. I had an email from the VMARS forum reflector containing attachments which completely filled my inbox at my ISP (10MB limit) which I wasn't expecting, and I think any other emails then vanished into cyberspace until I downloaded the offending one and freed-up the inbox. Not a very satisfactory state of affairs, but I don't see how it can be fixed short of asking for a bigger allowance from my ISP which I guess would cost! (And they are dear enough already, but that's another story.)
I take it you therefore have my email address - so can I ask you to send another, please (or PM your email address) and I'll send the R1082 circuits.
Andy
Hi Andy, yes the BL63 has certainly gone up, Colomor are selling them at £50, I think the BL63 was only used in the R1155 as far as I know.
The audio brigade have cottoned on to them maybe, they seem to love these older type triodes, the 6F8 being an example.
£50 is too much for me as it stands, the original one in mine has it's envelope detached from it's base, not a problem in itself. I have no way of checking the functionality of the DF section at the moment, I remember checking the relevant valve voltages some while ago and seem to remember nothing untoward, I will check it out fully at some time
