Where did all the cars go?
I have found a video that shows where they all went and they were clearly not recycled at all.

We can clearly talk about all the cars we see in the video but we will have to move the politics to where I found this video.

The car scrappage scheme was in 2009. Nine years on just how many of those then new cars are now in the scrap yard? You see plenty 08 and 09 plate cars in the scrappy.
Story goes that auto workers in Korea were working overtime to keep up with demand in the UK for Hyundai and Kia cars.

Geordie McBoyne.
The video makers claim that they made it this year.
I have not yet worked out where the air field is.
Possibly Thurleigh, the Scimitar in this pic is the same one as the one in the video at about 4:06 in:

Lawrence.
I can't date the aerial photos but still.....

Are there any members of that website who are willing to copy the links over?
Hi.
The scrappage scheme was badly policed and just a way of getting older cars off the road.
The government of the time made it clear that no car that was "scrapped" under the scheme was to be put back on the road nor was it to be broken up for spares, they were made safe (fuel, coolant, brake fluid etc drained) and then crushed. So in my view they were never re-cycled and I wrote to my MP at the time explaining that car breakers re-cycle far more than any other form of re-cycling. As usual I got no reply.
Guaranteed a scheme is on the way to scrap diesels. Mark my words, it will include diesel cars newer than the last time, rumours say it will be all cars and vans with Euro 5 or older spec.
The politicians have a fetish with destroying anything they get hold of. Look what they do with booze and fags.
With the cars in the video they have done nothing with most of them. They have just been left to rot.
Indeed as I say it was badly policed and many breakers didn't know the rules.
Governments try and do push rules onto people and the UK in a way sails close to the wind as to becoming a police state.
They sound great with sugar tax, smoking rules and the way they tackle booze is wrong, hitting people with more taxes doesn't fix the problem only education and fixing the root cause will work.
I agree.
Tax is a "superfood" to smugglers.
Perhaps the smugglers are holding onto the valuable cars for long enough that they can be got back onto the market again.
One of the people that went out there said that he ran the plate on DVLA to find that it had been deleted.
