i wounder if anyone has an idea how to restore the kind af plastic weave matirial used as a covering/speaker grill on this set it has shrunk

never done one but a thought springs to mind,
as there are plastic ribs could it be immersed in hot (not boiling) water to soften it then stretched out and pinned to a board to the right size?

At least it would give it a clean and a stretch.

good point i have tried a hair drier but with little sucsess trouble is i cant think what to replace it with if i have to. here is a pic of my attempt at the other side but not happy with it

a hairdryer will concentrate the heat in one area, once moved the heat will dissipate.
Try the hot water and leave it soaking a while perhaps an hour then try gently stretching.

Actually a hair dryer is likely to do more harm than good - it may shrink the plastic (artificial cloth fibres) even more eventually. Heat probably caused to problem in the first place. I don't think you can restore it, but the good news is that you can buy at a reasonable price something very like it from Sid Chaplin.
