I returned home from 2 weeks sailing and turned on my Farnell L30/2 bench power supply only to receive a loud bang.
After changing the fuse and switched on again via a lamp limiter there was a loud fizzing, and then silence, and the bench supply all seemed to work OK.
I switched out the lamp and there was an even louder BANG, by now I had the covers off.
I still could not see what was the cause, but suspected a fault in the on/off switch.
It eventually turned out to be this rather large Wima capacitor, which looked perfectly OK in circuit, until close examination, where fine cracks can be seen in the case.
