On one of my Windows 10 machines the hard disk was at 50.000 hours so I replaced it with a new HD. I cloned the old disk using free Macrium Reflect, system and all, to the new disk and removed the old HD. The new disk booted up into Windows 10 and everything worked fine with all progams and files as before. I hit the old hard disk with a hammer then discarded it!
So in my case cloning with Macrium Reflect worked OK.
The only anti-virus I have in use is Windows defender.
Maybe you couldt ry making a clone copy with AVG uninstalled first.
Sorry you are having difficulties, I often think of all the hours we spend sorting computer problems!
In the past I have also successfully cloned machines using EaseUS.
