Philips 'Superinductance' Radio Speaker mounting question

Not sure if that's the best way to title this thread, but what I want to know is'How best to secure the 4 metal rods which were originally used to hold the grille cloth in place, along with several staples?  I don't posess the type of stapling gun used to fix staples into wooden panels, so have glued a new piece of grille cloth in place, but would like to be able to fit the original rods, which were a tight press fit into grooves cut into the baffle board, if anyone can suggest a way to do so.  They won't press into place using a vice - I've already tried that!

In the end I just decided to glue the new cloth to the baffle board, then insert the three speaker mounting screws through the cloth and board, and have remounted the speaker. Everything seems to be OK without the four metal rods. I'll add pictures later, but maybe this thread should be moved to the 'Cabinet restoration'-Speaker grille cloth fixing question', anyway.
BTW, I used 'UHU' All Purpose adhesive to attach the cloth to the board.

Hmmm. The Rods are meant to press into Grooves?
I'd be inclined to try a couple of pieces of Steel Angle and some Cramps.

You might even manage it in a Vice with smooth Jaws if you have enough Throat.
Go on OS, give it a go

I did try to press the rods in with my vice, but it's jaws are only 2.375"(60mm)wide, whilst the metal rods are 6" (153mm)long. This didn't work, obviously, because the rods aremuch longer thn the vice's jaws are wide

Just had a thought, Gary (radio fixer) might know the trick, somewhere I'm thinking he did a full restoration on a Super Inductance receiver?

As Alan says, a couple of bits of metal angle, ferrous or non-ferrous, in your vice would press those rods in without damaging the baffle. I keep some gash bits of angle for jobs where wider jaws are required.
