Just posting a few pictures of a Bush AC91 i have resurected from flea bay . case was in better condition than i expected no back fitted and was`nt working, traced the fault to a bad connection on the output transformer ,someone had tried adding a seperate speaker at some point . swopped all the usual capacitors plus a couple of valves . it`s suprising how much time and effort you need to expend to restore something like this ! but i think it was worth it in the end ,it sounds well on a 4ft ariel , the sw is extremely sensitive but works well . the best thing is it looks good especially the white bakelite grille and even her indoors likes it ! it`s in the living room ! regards,

I'm finding the transformers fail where they turn the corner on the almost square bobbin. Whose idea that was, there's a firing squad waiting.

Lots of nice ali polishing Tim, the purists wont like it !

But I do and the way you have treated all the rusty bits and spray painted them, that's what I do.

Nice looking set that I don't remember seeing in the flesh. The grill is pleasing and it displays well.

What did you use to clean up the aluminium to look like that?

Moons ago when I was an apprentice in the trade we used to collect those white/cream cellulose type license labels from scrappers, once we had around half a dozen or so we would bundle them up and wrap a pile of old mains dropper wire around them, then when a "favourite" engineer was out for lunch we would hard wire the said arrangement underneath the chassis of a TV he was working on, nice smoke bomb...

nickds1 , thanks , i removed as much as i could from the chassis and rubbed it down with very fine wet and dry with a bit of brasso , then finished it off with some solvol autosol ali polish (from my classic bike days !) the worst bit is the prep reqd for painting , the ally will fade back to its original finish in time !

I've found T cut very good for bringing up tired Bakelite cases, the coarse version to shift the majority of gunge, the metallic version for the final polish up.

Developed for BT to polish bakelite phones etc. Get it on eBay...

Does a top job. Finish with a tiny bit of beeswax or Bison Clear wax plus a bit of elbow grease...
