I had been looking for a bush vhf 90a with out luck.
a friend said his gran had one but when I went to look it turned out to be a VHF81
well I did not have one of them either so £10 changed hands and now its mine.
she explained that it had gone bang about 20 years ago .
they had taken it to a bloke up the road who told her he could no fix it as the knobs were seized on.
sadly his attempts at removing them had cracked the dial glass.
It was then put in a cupboard .
Removing the back showed a chassis in remarkable condition.
first job was to remove the chassis (5 ba bolts).
If the boke up the rod had this he would of found the knobs are held on by grub screws!
the reason for the BANG was obvious C6 (mains filter ) had blown one end off.
As this set has tcc wax and brown and black hunts caps I thought it expedient to check them with out fail they were leaky or very leaky so they were all changed,
this is not something I would normally do but experience on other bush sets suggested that it would be necessary.
the smoothing block reformed quite quickly (maybe too quickly?).
next step is to apply mains.
