With the many years of experience that I've had with all manner of communications receivers, you'd think that I would find that getting stuck into a Philips 'domestic' would come easy, yes? No, not at all. Apart from the strange methods of construction and encapsulation of their components, the general layout usually baffles me. I've always regarded Philips stuff - and their ilk - as being representative of the 'European Way' of doing things: distinctly different from British and North American.

I'll just stick with the Eddystones and other British marques (like Racal, Plessey, GEC, Rees-Mace / Pye, Decca, Heathkit, Marconi), ex-WW2 stuff, North American and Japanese kit from about 1968 +: with that kit I can recognise what I'm looking at when the covers come off.
