Hello Mark,
It was easier to do than I thought. The only thing I had reflashed before was a Grundig GB1 set top box that had almost unusable original firmware. It used RS232 interface and what I think was a null modem cable. Again quite easy to make up but was a bit more of a faff to use. I would say if you are going to case yours I would leave building it until you've done the upgrade as you'll have to take it apart to bridge the jumpers. This I know to my cost. Good luck with it.

The current cost is £1.31 including post but as I said before it did take some time to come. Might even take longer at this time of year on the other hand it's cheap.

I thought it was also worth posting the link below. Its to the Banggood forum and discuses a way of reducing the noise on the trace before the firmware update. It is supposed to work and this has been agreed by JYE. I have not tried this but because I was a bit disappointed with the level of reduction of noise on the trace after the firmware update I thought I might. Any comments from the many experts here, as to whether this would be likely to work or perhaps cause other problems, would be appreciated. I rather not dismantle my DSO from its case again if its not thought worthwhile.

Hi.
I've just built up one of these scope kits. It came yesterday and took an hour and a half to make up including the case.
For the money it works better than I would have believed.
Although it is rated at 200Khz analogue bandwidth it resolves (albeit around 18db down) the RF from my micro transmitter at 1566Khz, it also will resolve video signals, the higher standards get distorted, any thing lower in frequency compares quite well with my CRT scopes.
Overall a neat little kit and well worth the money.

Certainly looks very neat and a better way to adjust settings with its rotary encoder.

Yes, that's a nice one. Hadn't noticed that before. From a quick look at the manual and the schematic, it looks to be quite a bit nicer than the 138. The rotary encoder is a definite step forward - having a pair of 3-position slide switches to adjust the volts/div is a bit of a pain.

I still haven't gotten around to ordering the case for the JYO138, but might order one of these instead. Hopefully it'll be a lot quieter - it looks like they've addressed the issue very well with the separate analogue PCB.
