Thanks Mark, no.. not knocking the Rigol as I think they're quite ground breaking 'scopes for the money, I've not ruled out getting one at some point.

My 1054Z has just arrived. The promised free DMM wasn't in the box. Phoned Telonic who apologised and will get one off to me.
The scope is heavier than it looks. I suppose I'm used to the Tek TDS210 which is rather less dense.

I was pleasantly surprised by the weight. There's a fair amount of shielding in there...

My 2000 series Rigol scope has performed beautifully for the last 18 months since I got it. I have had only one gripe, and I don't know if its the same on the 1000 series. The fan is s***ing noisy!
So noisy in fact that I could not leave the scope on in the background, but had to turn it on just for periods of actual use. Far, far more noisy than the Tek 22xx and 24xx series. So I have just opened it up (out of the warranty period) and stuck a series resistor in the 12V feed to the fan (snipped one wire), to lower the voltage to about 7-8 Volts. Magic. Peace and quiet. I measured the air exhaust temperature before and after and it's only 2-3 degrees different. So it was an overkill in the first place. Jeffrey, I am sure you'll love that scope! Jeremy

Of all my fan-cooled test gear, I'd say my Rigol is the quietest. The other stuff is fairly old, though. The worst offenders are the mains powered fans in the HP gear...
Still, that's what a workshop stereo is for. Drowning out the noise of the kids upstairs is the hardest job

Fan noise....Trouble is I do a fair bit of SW listing when in workshop mode fiddling around with SW projects...Time for a set of headphones maybe.

There's a nasty buzzy little fan in my Tek 1755A vectorscope. Only switched on when needed. The 2 PCs on my bench hum away nicely. the Tek 2465B scope isn't too bad. Just tried the Rigol and it's no worse than the 2465B.
