I've fixed it, and the answer is pretty dumb
I was looking at the Waveforms and pondering plunging into the works when I realised I hadn't changed the Y Sensitivity.
Switching through the Ranges produced some pretty horrible results.
Sorry about the orientation - usual problem.
It was then, as I moved things about, that it dawned on me that I hadn't put the Cover back on the 360. I fact my efforts to get them closer together and use shorter Leads had actually made things worse. Putting the Cover back on and spacing them out fixed it.
So, the next question was would it display a Waveform. The nearest Generator was the 81A so I hooked that up. A bit of twiddling produced a semi-stable Trace. In fact, jacking up the Amplitude allowed the Output to be used as the Trigger input to the 162.
So far so good. I think I'd better get a 161 and a 163 going then I can operate them in the manner in which they were accustomed and see what it really does.
