AVO 8 Testing...

Without meaning to, I seem to have acquired a bunch (is that the correct collective noun? David?) of AVO 8s (various models) over the years...

...its not that I actually use them much, its just, well, they're nice - some AVO Minors in there too...

Has anyone got a test schedule/alignment guide for these - I have no idea whether they are ok or completely shag*ed - it'd be nice to know before SWMBO asks, as, dangerously, she's offered to help me tidy the workshop and has a habit of asking awkward questions.... as in "I don't remember you getting this", followed by "Why are there so many of these"? and most damningly, "Do they work?"

Ideas? References?

These below aren't yours are they? At least they're in the right place -on display on the shelf - not on the bench!

Just as my daughter in law says a woman can't have too many shoes or handbags, there are guys who seem to hold the same view about AVOs (and for that matter, R200s, DAC90As and TR82s!).

Hah! Perhaps a "shelf" of AVOs might be better - anyway, I only have a few (more than some, but less than many). Even a few is too many really - I should sell some, hence the desire to check them properly...

I'm having to rationalise a bit as I have no free space in the workshop any more...

Nah - it's a pic I lifted 'from the dark side'. I thought it might be useful as an alibi, as in: 'I might have a lot of stuff, but I don't have as much as this guy'!

I've been through my Avo phase and Eddystone phase, during which nostalgia triumphed over commonsense. I do have a couple of nice AVO sig gennys though, a bit more useful than AVO meters.

Also still have the AVO Multiminor that I bought new in 1962 at the then considerable cost of £10.00, which I saved up for for months on end. (Equivalent to £180 today - yikes!).

I still have the Sinclair Scientific calculator I bought new in 1976 when I was in the 6th Form.

ISTR it cost £ 45 - Saved for ages for that - its on my "shelf of shame" along with my British Thornton slide rule, a DEC J-11 chip and many other horrors.

The calculator still works - its "reverse Polish" - who nowadays (apart from a few HP calculator users) knows how that works ?
