A Day Spent Stringing

I had some fun stringing my Grundig 3028.  Helped by the fact that the trader sheet had the wrong length shown for one of the cords (there are two different size dials for the 3028) - grrr!   The German doc was correct however so I got there at the second attempt.

Never the most fun part of a restore but hugely satisfying when it works properly once more!

You should have a go at a Philips tuning cord with those brake cable style bits in them.
About half of the capacitor drive is shown in the photo.
The Bakelite drum is part of the pointer drive.
It makes all the others look so easy once you have tackled one of these.
Only a monoknob stands a chance of being more tricky than this one.

Looks pretty horrid until you find it is two strings: one for the drum and one for the pointer.

I have a Monoknob in lots of pieces at the moment and now I understand it the drum and pointer stringing isn't too bad.  The drum drive is a cord and couldn't be simpler and easier.  The pointer is the Bowden cable and that people fear but I don't see a problem.  Have new anti kink game fishing wire for the inner.  Of course it isn't re-strung yet

On my Philips set I laid the Bowden cables on the bench so that they were flat and the waxed necklace cord just pushed through without a problem.
The Motorola looks just as complicated but without the two Bowden cables between the drive and the tuning capacitor.
Mine was shown with the pointer drive drum removed for clarity and ease of threading of the drum drive.
