As a postscript to this, please try to avoid 1:1 and switchable probes. 1:1 probes do have their uses, mainly for looking at very small, low frequency signals. But for the most part they just impose excess capacitance on the circuit you are testing. Switchable probes get inadvertently switched to 1:1 and the switches are often unreliable.
