Any tips anyone?
I've done a couple of these. It isn't debris - it is the original grease gone gummy over many, many decades. There is no alternative to desoldering, dismantling, cleaning all parts, smear of automotive grease or similar, and reassemble.
There are lots of parts, including spacer washers which seem to have been selected on assembly by AVO. Take photos during the process so everything goes back where it should.
Don't squirt cleaner in there, or solvent. Cleaner will just mobilise the old grease and make it tighter. Solvent can make the bakelite wheels swell and make it tighter.
