Like I've said before, the cheap probes are perfectly fine for what Rob is working on, in the main guitar amps and to a lesser extent AM valve radios.
I'd not use them for high speed digital or VHF applications. In fact I've found them perfectly adequate even on video stages. Some are a tad lossy at higher RF though as we already know.
