At the risk of stating the obvious, the SMG 40 does not include an FM modulator - you need to provide your own. They did make a unit that matched, but I can't remember the model number right now.
Of course, your Leader includes a modulator. I'm not familiar with that unit, so don't know if you can use the modulator within that with the SMG 40. But then, if you already have the Leader, then you've already got the functionality of the SMG 40. Perhaps the SMG 40 will be "better" in some way, but again, I don't know anything about the Leader.
Reviewing the thread, I see that none of the replies were actually about the SMG 40. Not unusual, I guess... So I will mention - in case you haven't seen it - that the write-up of this unit on my website includes a lot more detail, including a bit about the input switching, which is not quite as obvious as one might assume:
