When the pot is turned fully anticlockwise (I assume with least reaction) the wiper would be at the right hand end of the track where the resistance is increasing fastest.
When the pot is in the centre, as in the photo, the resistance is zero as the wiper has by now contacted the brass plate curved round lower half of the element.
There is a 6BA bolt which clamps the resistance element to the brass plate at the centre point (below the wiper in the photo) so this is the contact to the other end of the track.
The pot is adapted so the end travel stops are at the blue mark positions.
If I could get hold of a similar wirewound element of about 1 1/4 inch diameter I feel sure it could be fitted and maybe adapted to change its "law". The 6BA screw in the centre would ensure that it would short out the part of the track not required.
