Just as I'm about to admit defeat and box up I decided one more last stab, and the little blighter decides to put it's hands up in surrender. I now have the 10 patterns appearing and a healthy test tone.
The quality of the output is wanting, but a step in the right direction and the little confidence boost one needs every now and then.
Encouraged I shall continue, still a huge mountain to climb, I've only been looking at the TV pattern side there' still the AM/FM sig gen and sweep and CW??
