Maybe rustle was the wrong word to use in my previous post, it was more of a crackle as I remember it.
A bit off topic for the mic cable but I was reading some stuff yesterday about the first transatlantic telephone cable, what a job that was, the shore side voltage to supply the repeaters was a few kV, the valves used in the repeaters were specials, aged for 5,000 hours before commissioning, platinum was used in the cathodes construction, valves used were the 175HQ and the 6P12.
