time to start on this.
here are some photos of what we are dealing with .i have removed the mains lead as it had crumbled to bare wires.
just to confuse things the neg went direct to the mains switch but the live went to pin 7 of the uu6 rec .but this is used only as an anchor as there is no internal connection!

if its made by hand it can be repaired by hand
