Still on thread, I saw one of these last night:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220946030107?s...K:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
The transistor tester part uses exactly the same open source software as the Peak tester. They are extremely well made and at least reference the software source author on the front panel label. You just connect the transistor to the test points/leads in any order, and it then tells you what the device is and which lead is connected to what. The display is blue on white and quite large characters so OK for us gents of a certain age. Even so, I have seen a mod to switch on the backlight (that is there in the display, but not connected), using just a MPSA14 NPN Darlington pair and 3 bits of wire. It switches off after a pause, long enough to read the outcome of the test.
I have a birthday coming up soon (officially a state pensioner then) and I have persuaded SWMBO that she can keep me suitably amused by buying me one. I will post more once mine arrives from Thailand.
Colin
PS - there is a thread on it here: http://www.eevblog.com/forum/reviews/sem...nal-views/
