We had cause to call out a Baxi service engineer to look at our boiler that is still under warranty. In his van, he had every imaginable spare for their full range of boilers. He explained that it is far easier for them as a company to top up their in-van spares as each job each completed and "reported" back into HQ by their smart terminals. Good use of modern technology though I ..... and then he pulled out his multimeter! It was a small meter, exactly like this:

£5 delivered and just throw it out if damaged. He showed me that in the van he had 4 of them still unopened, and that was part of his stock. The interesting thing is that there is a switch position for transistor hfe testing. I duly bought one, and it suits my sorting of NOS transistors from 1971 to date that I have.

PS - the hfe values given agree pretty much with those given by a much more expensive tester too.
