Thanks Col - I am researching adhesives - anything you would recommend?
As you suggest, I am going to try veneering a few old chests and/or cupboards first and make any mistakes on them.

PS - the unit I showed is coffee table height and we use it as such. The drawers hold DVDs and Videos.
