Many moons ago, at our last house, we had a major update of the Central Heating. I guess it was around 1985. At that time the incoming water pipe was lead - we later changed it to HDPE. The old codger - I guess he was in his 50s then - had to join the new pipework to the old. He dug about in the bottom of his bag and produced a stub of Plumber's Lead and proceeded to wipe a very neat joint using his gas torch and a Woodbine packet he found under the floor. His young helper, and me, were most imppressed.
